"Food Rules"

In this era of empty calories, rampant obesity, profound sugar addictions and a diabetes pandemic fueled largely by a mephistophelian pact between the processed food-manufacturing industry and those who subsidize its continued production of culinary garbage, we at Metro Green feel it is our obligation - nay, our sacred duty! - to bring you this clip featuring "Food Rules" author Michael Pollan and The Daily Show's irrepressible Jon Stewart.

Pollan's money-quotes: "Eat food. Avoid edible food-like substances."
And, right now "the food industry creates patients for the health care industry."

Bon appetit!

  1. Pollin's suggestions, laudatory in themselves, carry with them the message that people might consider spending more time thoughtfully planning and preparing their meals. This different approach to eating would have an added benefit of allowing people to slow the pace of their lives, and to discover that something as simple as cooking a meal may be inherently more rewarding than many of the other, often shallow distractions and busy-ness that leads us to pull up to the next MacDonalds.

  2. Thanks for commenting, Jeff. I couldn't agree with you more. In fact, it was the very ideas you've identified that led me to post this piece - A Way to Live - back in November.
